2016-01-12	Datr	The prize and penalty are only equal if the player and problem ELO and RD are equal. If the problem is lower rated then the prize is lower, if the problem is higher rated then the prize is higher. If RDs are equal and you solve a lower problem you may get 8 points and the problem loses 8 points. If you fail the lower problem you may lose 12 points and the problem gains 12 points. If the RDs are different, which they usually are, then, I believe, the problem and player rating changes will be different.
2016-01-12	Corella	the basic problem with the ratings here, if you got a program to play random moves, you'd hardly ever get a problem correct, and you'd end up with a -9999 elo point rating in no time, which of course is impossible. even if the program could play 2 ply ahead, it would still score a - elo rating. so the idea is, that if a problem penalizes you 10 points then it should grant you 10 points for solving it, because otherwise there is this imbalance.
2016-01-07	Datr	N4pll: Thanks for the info. I have downloaded Stockfish 7 and played it against Stockfish 6. It won as white and drew on time as black. I think they may have improved the endgame play and it seems to find mates slightly faster.

2016-01-02	Dmedved	Yes, if anyone has an otb rating, it would be useful for the rest of us to relate our rating here to an otb rating. The problem with tactics sites is that you know there is a 'winning' move sequence to find. The disadvantage is you're not privy to the player's language that lead to the situation in hand.

2016-01-02	Corella	I wonder if the ideachess tactics rating relates to over the board ratings for players. Maybe an option for a player to include their playchess or other rating in their user profile. Given of course, it's possible to get a 100% score here, depending on how long you take to solve the problems.

2015-12-24	Datr	That is an idea I proposed long ago. A player option: 1. I would like mated problems flagged. 2. Do not flag mate problems. Personally, I would opt from option 2 because knowing a mate exists changes my thinking processes and that is bad, the default should be to assume a mate exits and look for it, but if we know it is a tactics problem then I don't look for mates. I support N4pll suggestion.

2015-10-28	Alpringle	Ajedrecin: The RD is the ratings deviation. It is used to give you error bars around your current rating as well as to calculate the impact your performance on a new problem should have on your current rating (based on old problems). Basically, the RD is a measure of how accurate your rating is. So, if your rating on the site is 1500 with an RD of 30, then you could view your actual rating as somewhere between 1470 (1500-30) and 1530 (1500+30). Of course, the RD is just measure of deviation.
